We're Hiring
CASA is looking for two contractors to help deliver our most important work in the coming months. We are a small, focused team — these roles carry real ownership and direct impact. Both positions are remote and part-time, starting as soon as possible.
We are looking for someone who is genuinely energised by execution: taking CASA's initiatives to polished delivery, spotting what's missing before being asked, and caring about the quality of the end result. This role lets you work across CASA's different focus areas — and be the force multiplier behind our most important work.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the delivery of our upcoming Africa AI red-teaming workshop in August: event preparations and project coordination, logistics, speakers and participant communications, and post-event write-ups (travel and attendance not expected)
- Coordinate CASA's prize competitions: scope for high potential bets, grow the community, manage evaluation admin, judge and participant communications, and build new partnerships to scale impact
- Support any other upcoming CASA special projects
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of experience in project management, preferably in the tech/AI sector
- Knowledge of or interest in the Global Majority, especially African AI context
- Proven ability to manage multi-stakeholder projects end-to-end with minimal oversight
- Experience in building and maintaining impactful partnerships across the African continent
- Excellent written communication — clear, professional, and audience-aware
- Experience coordinating online and in-person events across distributed teams
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and proactive about flagging and resolving issues
- AI power-user — curious about using frontier models, their limitations, and new AI workflows
Role Details
We are looking for a technically grounded AI governance researcher who can design and run small empirical studies, collect and analyse data, and turn findings into clear outputs for both technical and policy audiences.
Illustrative Projects
- Designing and running experiments that probe frontier model behaviour on questions relevant to CASA's research agenda
- Building structured datasets from model documentation, evaluation reports, and policy texts, and analysing them quantitatively
- Producing data visualisations that make AI governance trends legible to policy audiences
- Drafting technical commentaries and briefs in response to live developments in AI safety
Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality research outputs advancing CASA's research agenda
- Proactively suggest high-impact outputs, e.g. audience-friendly data visualisations
- Track relevant publications, policy developments, and emerging research to surface key findings as well as opportunities to the team
What We're Looking For
- Background in AI, computer science, machine learning, or a related technical field (Masters- or PhD-level preferred)
- Experience designing and running empirical studies or experiments involving frontier AI models
- Experience collecting, cleaning, and structuring data from messy or unstructured sources
- Working proficiency in Python for data analysis and experiment scripting
- Familiarity with current AI safety, AI governance, or technology policies
- Self-directed and able to produce high-quality work with light supervision
- Experience with red-teaming, safety evaluation, or empirical AI research
- Prior work in a government office or an AI lab
- Track record of published academic or policy writing
- Knowledge of or interest in the Global Majority, especially African AI context
